The Great Falls Electric traveled to Vancouver, Washington on Sunday for their third game of the 2024 The Basketball League (TBL) season against the Vancouver Volcanoes.
Great Falls (1-2), who defeated the Emerald City Jaguars (122-89) in their first game of their inaugural season on Friday in Eugene, Oregon and then made the trek to Salem (Oregon) to face the Salem Capitals on Saturday where they fell 113-100.
Through the first two games, Great Falls is led in scoring by Lyle Hexom (20.5 points per game (ppg) and Antwaan Cushingberry (22.5 ppg). Hexom also averages 17.5 rebounds per contest.
Markus Golder leads the Volcanoes after four games (4-1 record) by averaging 23.8 ppg and Tyshon Pickett is the team leader with 8.8 rebounds. Vancouver tasted victory against Emerald City (118-101), Seattle Super Hawks (101-96) and the Salem Capitals (132-121) The Capitals redeem themselves and earned a 116-113 win on March 10th.
The Great Falls Electric finished their three-game road trip through Oregon and Washington with a 127-120 setback to the Vancouver Volcanoes on Sunday night at Hudson’s Bay High School in Vancouver, Washington.
After Great Falls gave up two points to start the contest, the Electric went on a 7-0 run thanks to Brandon Jamar and Antwaan Cushingberry’s deep treys. Both teams traded the lead throughout the first twelve minutes, but Vancouver led 29-28 after the first break. Brandon Jamar scored ten points for Great Falls. Markus Golder and Caleb Coleman each had seven points apiece for the Volcanoes.
The visiting team regained the lead back from Vancouver with Isaac Howard and Lyle Hexom baskets as the Electric led 35-29 during the first minutes of the second quarter. Both teams traded baskets and kept the game close throughout with Great Falls leading 46-41 on an Antwaan Cushingberry jump shot with 7:31 to play. Great Falls trailed 61-60 before the half.
Great Falls’ Tyshon Pickett converted a long-distance trey after Vancouver’s Tyshon Pickett field goal to even the score (63-63) early in the third quarter. The final eleven minutes had the Volcanoes outscoring the Electric 37-23.
Vancouver scored seven consecutive points before Lamine Komara stopped the scoring drought for the -Electric early in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to twenty points (107-87). Great Falls attempted to come back from the deficit but came up seven points short.
Thomas Miles and Markus Golder combined for 52 points for Vancouver while Great Falls was led by Lyle Hexom with 24 points followed by Lamine Komara and Antwaan Cushingberry with 23 points each for coach Johnny Clark’s squad. Brandon Jamar contributed 14 rebounds and 3 blocks.
NEXT CONTEST: The Great Falls Electric will make their first home debut on Saturday, March 23rd and Sunday, March 24th when the Seattle Super Hawks come to the Electric City for a pair of conference games. The action starts at 7:00PM (MST) on Saturday and on Sunday afternoon at 4:00PM (MST) at Great Falls High School’s Swarthout Fieldhouse.
