Malmstrom Air Force Base held a ceremony for an ICBM (Intercontinental Ballistic Missile) construction. Specifically, for the LGM-35A Sentinel. This is an effort to support the further development of the base’s ICBM systems, and their aim to strengthen the nation’s “nuclear triad”. A nuclear triad is a 3-section system which allows a country to launch nuclear weapons from land, sea, and air. The new system is meant to replace the previously used Minuteman III weapon system, the land portion of the nuclear triad. The South Gate will also be assisting on projects crucial for fielding Sentinel.

The ceremony took place on May 28th, 2026. Throughout the program, there will be additions around the ICBM site as well as infrastructure projects that are to be worked on after that construction is finished. This includes the development of new silos, utility corridor networks, as well as maintenance facilities.
