Community members may observe an increased police presence at the Highwood Trailer Court (3800 8th Ave N). Law enforcement officers and deputies from the Cascade County Sheriff/Coroner’s Office are actively investigating a disturbance in the area. In light of this situation, Morningside Elementary School (4119 7th Ave N) has implemented a shelter-in-place protocol until the matter is resolved. A suspect was taken into custody without injury, and Morningside Elementary has resumed normal operations.
Update January 6, 2026
On the morning of January 5th, at approximately 8:24 AM, the Great Falls Police Department received a report of an active disturbance occurring in the 4100 block of Highwood Drive. The caller described a situation involving a firearm, prompting immediate police response.
Officers conducted a thorough investigation and took one adult female into custody for her involvement in the incident. The Cascade County Sheriff/Coroner’s Office provided additional support during this operation.
In light of the disturbance and the potential risk to nearby residents, Morningside Elementary School was placed in a Shelter-In-Place security posture. This precautionary measure was taken solely due to the school’s close proximity to the scene of the disturbance. There were no direct threats made against the school or its students.
After the situation was resolved and it was deemed safe, the Shelter-In-Place order at Morningside Elementary was promptly lifted, allowing normal activities to resume.
