December 2nd, 2025, the City-County Health Department (CCHD) was notified of positive measles cases in Gallatin County.

Public exposure by these individuals includes both Missoula and Gallatin counties. Please be aware that if you travelled to either of these counties during the dates noted, monitor yourself for symptoms. Because measles can remain airborne for up to two hours after an infected person leaves, the exposure windows include both the time of the visit and the two-hour period following it.

Missoula Public Health (MPH) reports that an individual infected with measles visited several public locations in Missoula, MT, on Saturday, November 22, 2025. There are no confirmed cases reported in Missoula County at this time.

  • 11:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.: Missoula TJ Maxx
  • 12:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.: Missoula Scheels
  • 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.: Missoula Old Chicago

Gallatin County reports several dates and locations that are noted on their health department website.

Measles

Measles symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, white spots inside the mouth, and a red rash that typically begins on the face before spreading downward. These symptoms usually appear 7–14 days after exposure but can take up to 21 days to develop. Individuals who develop symptoms are urged to call their healthcare provider before arriving in person to avoid exposing others in clinical settings.

The measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine remains the most effective way to prevent measles. U.S. vaccination recommendations advise two doses of the MMR vaccine, which are 97% effective in preventing the disease. Those unsure of their vaccination status should attempt to locate their immunization records by:

  • Contacting previously attended schools (high school, college, university)
  • Checking with their current or former medical providers
  • Reaching out to the health department in the area where they grew up
  • Reviewing their state’s immunization registry

Statewide updates can be found on the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services website.
