Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is advising floaters, hikers, and other visitors to Sluice Boxes State Park about new rock obstacles in Belt Creek and obstructions on the hiking trail adjacent to the creek. A recent rockslide has deposited numerous boulders in the creek and across parts of the trail.
The new boulders are located approximately half a mile downstream from the Logging Creek Bridge on Belt Creek. Floaters should exercise caution and scout these areas in advance.
The affected section of the trail is less than 100 feet long, requiring hikers to scramble over large boulders to navigate through that area.
These rockslides occurred over the winter, likely due to earthquakes centered near Great Falls in January.
