Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) launched the Migratory Bird Stamp contest in 2024 to promote wetland conservation. This year’s winner is Kim Diment, who depicted a drake and a hen northern shoveler floating on a pond. Diment, a Northern Michigan artist, aims to capture the essence of wildlife through her art.
Wetlands are vital for ecosystems, providing flood control, groundwater recharge, and water purification. FWP’s Migratory Bird Wetland Program helps landowners and partners develop wetland conservation projects.
Purchasers of a migratory bird license will receive an email with instructions to opt in for a free sticker sheet featuring Diment’s artwork, expected this summer. Those who don’t hunt can pre-purchase the sticker sheet through the Montana Audubon website.
As the 2026 contest winner, Diment will receive a $2,000 prize funded by Montana’s Outdoor Legacy Foundation and Montana Audubon. More contest details and submissions can be viewed at https://fwp.mt.gov/migratory-bird-stamp, and more of Diment’s artwork is available at kimdiment.com.
The Montana Migratory Bird Stamp highlights the importance of wetland habitats. Hunters need both a Federal Duck Stamp and a Montana Migratory Bird License to hunt migratory birds in the state. Proceeds from license sales support wetland conservation efforts. Stickers and postcards are not available at FWP offices.
