On January 16th at 10:55 PM, Great Falls Fire Rescue responded to a fire at 1219 9th Ave S. The D-platoon arrived on the scene to find a detached garage fully engulfed in flames. Crews worked to extinguish the fire from the exterior of the garage; however, the roof collapsed within 10 minutes, making it extremely difficult to control the fire. Following the roof collapse, D-platoon implemented defensive measures, leading to crews remaining on-site for most of the night.

Due to the labor-intensive nature of this fire, off-duty GFFR personnel were called back to assist, and mutual aid was requested from the Montana Air National Guard Fire Department and the Malmstrom Air Force Base Fire Department. As of now, no injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation. The garage is considered a total loss.
