On Monday, March 25th, a grizzly bear was put down after attacking cattle on private land near the Rocky Mountain Front.

The bear had been captured and fitted with a radio collar by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks earlier in the month. At that time, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS) had relocated the 375-pound young adult male bear. After consultation with the USFWS, the bear was euthanized on March 25th by U.S.D.A. Wildlife Services.

Grizzly bears in the lower 48 states are classified as threatened species under the Endangered Species Act. Management authority for grizzlies rests with the USFWS, working closely in Montana with FWP, the Forest Service, the National Park Service, the Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Geological Survey, U.S.D.A. Wildlife Services, and Native American tribes. This collaboration occurs through the Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee.
