Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks has recently approved $100,000 in funding for four projects that aim to enhance angling opportunities at local ponds. The Community Pond Program by FWP will provide the funding, which will be matched with $200,000 from outside sources. These projects are intended to improve the angler experience, fish habitat, and survival.
The funded projects will be located across eastern Montana and include the following:
– Harry’s Pond (Chinook) – Angler amenities will be established (parking area, walking path, and latrines).
– Paulo Reservoir (Glasgow) – The project will include road resurfacing, fishing piers, toilet improvements, and vegetative seeding.
– Simons Clark Fork Yellowstone Pond (Bridger) – This project will include dredging and repair to the headgate structure to maintain water levels.
– Wadsworth Pond (Great Falls) – Improvements include bank stabilization to reduce erosion, establishment of vegetation, and establishing safe angler access points.
FWP accepts applications for the Community Pond Program each year until February 1st. Application forms are available at fwp.mt.gov/aboutfwp/grant-programs/community-pond and from FWP offices. Any individual or group with a project designed to enhance angling at a local pond may apply for Community Pond Program funding. Projects that address youth, family, education, or accessibility are preferred. Applicants are encouraged to work with local FWP fisheries biologists, and public access is required.
