Cinephiles — old and young — are invited to the Library for five FREE documentary films in the Cordingley Room from March 3 to May 19. The films will be shown at 6 pm each evening. Doors open at 5:30 pm.

The films being shown are: The Inquisitor (March 3), The Story of Us: The Women Who Shaped Montana (March 10), The Tallest Dwarf (March 31), The Librarians (April 21), and The Grocery List Show (May 19).

These documentary films are made possible thanks to support from the Great Falls Public Library Foundation. Water and popcorn will be provided, as well.

Four of the five films are presented by the Indie Lens Pop-Up program. The Story of Us: The Women Who Shaped Montana was produced by, and is being provided by, PBS Montana.

Indie Lens Pop-Up is a neighborhood series that brings people together for film screenings and community-driven conversations. It draws local residents, leaders, and organizations to discuss what matters most, from newsworthy topics and social issues to family and community relationships.


March 3
The Inquisitor (Indie Lens Pop-Up film)

Explore the life and legacy of Barbara Jordan in The Inquisitor. Jordan was a groundbreaking Texas congresswoman whose sharp intellect and moral clarity transformed U.S. politics. From Nixon’s impeachment to civil rights battles, her voice demanded accountability, while she privately faced struggles in which few ever knew. Film by Angela Tucker (director/producer), Trevite Willis (producer), and Moira Griffin (producer).

March 10
The Story of Us: The Women Who Shaped Montana (Montana PBS film)

To help celebrate International Women’s Day, the Library invites patrons to follow the inspiring stories of notable Montana women and learn how they helped enrich and shape the Montana we know today. Montana PBS is providing a special cut of all three episodes together. The run time is almost an hour and a half. Hear about the stories of T Sarah Bickford, Maggie Smith Hathaway, Susie Walking Bear Yellowtail, Helena Clarke, Rose Hum Lee, Rose Gordon, Ella Knowles Haskell, Fannie Sperry Steele, and Nancy Cooper Russell.

March 31
The Tallest Dwarf (Indie Lens Pop-Up Film)

Follow filmmaker Julie Forrest Wyman as she searches for her place in the little people community and unpacks rumors of dwarfism in her own family. Through intimate stories, creative collaborations, and archival history, the film delves into identity and medicine, asking whether society should change people or the structures that limit them. Film by Julie Forrest Wyman (director/producer), Jonna McKone (producer), Lindsey Dryden (producer), and Shaleece Haas (producer).

April 21
The Librarians (Indie Lens Pop-Up film)

When Texas lawmakers seek to review a list of books, librarians find themselves on the frontlines of a national battle. Across the U.S., librarians face the impact of uniting against library collection standards that include restrictions on race-related and LGBTQIA+ content. Drawing on historical context, The Librarians explores the broader implications for education and public life. Film by Kim A. Snyder (director/producer), Janique L. Robillard (producer), Maria Cuomo Cole (producer), and Jana Edelbaum (producer).

We will also have a panel of local librarians from around town who will speak after the film! Program put together in conjunction with Great Falls College of MSU, University of Providence, Great Falls Public Schools, and Great Falls Public Library.

May 19
The Grocery List Show (Indie Lens Pop-Up film)

Hosted by Top Chef contender Chrissy Camba, this documentary is a trip to five bustling international grocery stores in America and the communities they serve. Special guests and food enthusiasts join Chrissy to shop for ingredients and cook a favorite family recipe, as they celebrate global food traditions over a shared meal. Film by Emily Strong (director/producer) and Diane M. Quon (producer).
