The City’s Parking Advisory Commission has put forth a recommendation for the reinstatement of the 2-hour complimentary parking trial at the North Parking Garage for the summer season of 2025. This plan, which has received the approval of the City Commission, is set to run from June 1st to August 31st, 2025. During this period, motorists will benefit from two hours of free parking, after which a nominal fee of 50 cents per hour will apply, representing half the cost of on-street metered parking.

The trial program implemented in 2024 resulted in a substantial increase of 144.8% in summer parking activity at the North Garage, demonstrating significant public interest and program effectiveness. Parking in both the North and South Parking Garages remains complimentary after 6 PM, on weekends, and on City holidays, while on-street parking is also free after 5 PM on the same days.

While City officials exercise caution regarding the expansion of subsidized parking initiatives, they recognize that providing short-term relief at the North Garage constitutes a pragmatic and beneficial step. This measure is designed to support users while the City undertakes efforts to modernize parking equipment and enhance the overall experience at this vital downtown facility.
