Jim Margaris passed away on July 22, 2026, at the Crescent Assisted Living Home in Sandy, Utah. He was born in Great Falls, MT on February 5, 1931, to Louis and Lola Margaris, who immigrated to the U.S. from Greece in the early 1900’s.
He lived a life defined by service and devotion. A proud veteran of the United States Navy, where he served during the Korean War as an Aviation Radioman, he carried the discipline and honor of his military service into every part of his life. He spent 40 years working for the Great Northern Railway as an engineer, building a career marked by an impeccable record and the quiet dedication of a man who took pride in doing things right. Jim was a Master of Havre Masonic Enterprise Lodge, 134, member of the Scottish Rite, Shriners, Eagles, and Veterans of Foreign Wars, all which kept him active through his early retirement years. But it was at home where he shone brightest, a kind, gentle soul who cherished and cared for his family above all else. Loved by everyone who knew him, Jim leaves behind a legacy of honor, warmth, and a life well and faithfully lived, at the age of 95.
He married the former Theodora (Dee) Zeatas of Clinton, MA on June 1, 1958. She was the love of his life, and he cared for her for many years, always standing by her side in sickness and health.
Survived by daughter, Zorina Philipps (Greg), son Chuck Margaris (Nancy), three grandchildren, Alexandra Philipps, James Philipps (Bailey), and Zach Margaris. Preceded in death by his wife, Dee, parents, sister Annie Yarmey and brothers John Margaris and Bill Margaris.
A Trisagion service will be held at Croxford Funeral home on Friday, July 31st, at 7 p.m. A graveside prayer will be delivered on Saturday, August 1st, at 10:00 a.m. at Great Falls Highland Cemetery.
Donations in honor of James may be made to Saint Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church.
