Version 1.0.0

The Great Falls Public Library is excited to welcome Montana author Mike Hoggan on Tuesday, Sept. 9 from 5:30 to 6:30 pm to talk about his book ‘Between Predator and Prey’ featuring stories about his experiences during his tenure with USDA Wildlife Services.

Mike describes the book saying, “It is more than just a book about hunting – it’s a captivating story about heart stopping moments dealing with some of the fiercest predators of America. It’s also a journey about the land, the people, and the wild places that make up the heart of the American West. Once you start reading, you won’t want to put it down.”

The book begins with a couple of memorable and sometimes humorous chapters at the Paris Ranch in Eastern Nevada. While working there, Mike sharpened the skills needed that shaped his future career. Afterward, he joined the Department of Interiors Animal Damage Control Program, (later known as USDA Wildlife Services).

His new job started in the remote mountains and deserts of Nevada, where he spent a decade living in a sheep wagon, on horseback tracking wily coyotes and elusive mountain lions. Then, for the next thirty years, he worked along the Rocky Mountains of Montana, where his encounters only grew—dealing with wolves, cranky grizzlies, and the unpredictable nature of the wild.

With a deep love for history, Mike, now retired, has a gift for preserving moments and memories that might otherwise be lost. His book is a heartfelt collection of experiences that honor the people, places, and events that shaped his life.

Cassiopeia Books will be on hand on Tuesday, selling copies of ‘Between Predator and Prey’ as well.
