After more than a year of public outreach, research, and collaboration, Lewis and Clark County is proud to release the final draft of its Growth Policy and Future Land Use Map—a community-driven plan that outlines the County’s long-term vision for development, resource protection, and infrastructure planning.

The Growth Policy will now enter its final phase of review through public hearings hosted by the Planning Board and the Board of County Commissioners:

May 28, 2025 – Planning Board Public Hearing (6:00 p.m., Room 330 of the City-County Building, 316 N. Park Avenue, Helena, MT)

June 12, 2025 – Board of County Commissioners Public Hearing (9:00 a.m., Room 330 of the City-County Building, 316 N. Park Avenue, Helena, MT)

The Growth Policy is a long-range planning document that defines a shared vision for how Lewis and Clark County should grow, adapt, and thrive in the coming years. It guides decision-making around housing, economic development, infrastructure, natural resource protection, and land use. The accompanying Future Land Use Map illustrates this vision, identifying areas best suited for residential, commercial, agricultural, and conservation priorities.

The Growth Policy update has been a deeply collaborative effort, guided by extensive public engagement. Since early 2023, the County has hosted nine public open houses across different communities, held fifteen stakeholder meetings, and received ongoing feedback from hundreds of members of the public, as well as a dedicated Technical Advisory Committee made up of subject-matter experts and community representatives.

In advance of the hearings, residents can ask questions, review the plan, or chat with County staff at any of the following events:

May 17, 2025 – Helena Farmers Market Information Booth (9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Downtown Helena, Fuller Avenue, Helena, MT)

June 6, 2025 – Lincoln Government Day (11:00 a.m., Lincoln Library Annex, 102 9th Avenue, Lincoln, MT)

June 13, 2025 – Augusta Community Center (11:00 a.m., 134 Main Street, Augusta, MT)

All residents are encouraged to review the Growth Policy and attend a public hearing to share their thoughts and support. Your voice helps ensure the plan reflects the values, priorities, and needs of the Lewis and Clark County community.
