On the evening of Thursday, February 20, 2025, a fire broke out in the Carpenter Shop at the Lewis & Clark County Fairgrounds, resulting in a total loss of the building. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

“On behalf of the County and County Commissioners, we extend our gratitude to the Helena Fire Department and other first responders for their swift and effective response to this incident,” said Roger Baltz, Lewis and Clark County Chief Administrative Officer.

The building was used as a workshop and storage for fairgrounds equipment. No cost estimate for the damage is available at this time.

“We know that people are curious about the fire,” Baltz said, “but for safety we ask that you avoid the area while the investigation and cleanup are ongoing. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.”
