On the morning of January 14th, at approximately 3:39 am, 911 dispatchers received a call concerning a family disturbance occurring at 1700 2nd Avenue North. Law enforcement officers arrived at the scene within one minute, where they discovered an individual who had sustained a gunshot wound.

Emergency medical personnel from Great Falls Fire Rescue and Great Falls Emergency Services rendered immediate assistance, and the injured party was subsequently transported to Benefis Emergency Department, where their condition is reported as critical but stable.

According to a press release, the suspect has been identified as 71-year-old David Martel, a resident of Great Falls. He faces charges of attempted deliberate homicide, which is classified as a felony.

Officers and detectives conducted an extensive investigation at the residence for several hours, processing the crime scene. They have concluded their initial inquiries and returned the property to its residents.

The investigation has established that the victim and the suspect are acquainted. While other individuals were present in the residence at the time of the incident, there were no additional injuries reported, and there is no ongoing threat to public safety.

This investigation remains active.
