At approximately 8 p.m. on January 23rd, employees of Calumet Montana responded to a leak and promptly removed the affected equipment from service. During the initial assessment and response, Calumet requested the temporary closure of Smelter Avenue, which was reopened approximately two hours later.

The incident did not result in any injuries, and all other refinery operations continued without interruption. While some odors were detected in the vicinity of the plant, air monitoring confirmed that no unsafe levels of contaminants were present. There is no risk to public health or the environment. The initial cleanup has been completed successfully, and Calumet Montana Refining expresses appreciation to the City of Great Falls for its assistance with the temporary road closure and its collaboration with the refinery and city first responders.

“The safety of our employees and the community is our top priority,” said Kollin Schade, General Manager. “We appreciate the swift response of our team and the cooperation of the City of Great Falls in assisting with the temporary road closure.”
