Update: Calumet Montana Refining All Clear Announcement

Calumet Montana Refining has confirmed all clear after last night’s precautionary notice. At approximately 8 p.m. on January 23, employees responded to a leak and removed the affected equipment from service. While this initial assessment and response were underway, Calumet requested the temporary closure of Smelter Avenue, which reopened approximately two hours later.

The incident resulted in no injuries, and all other refinery operations continued as normal. While some odors were detected near the plant, air monitoring confirmed that no unsafe levels were present. There is no risk to public health or the environment. Initial cleanup has been completed, and Calumet Montana Refining thanks the City of Great Falls for its assistance with the temporary road closure and for its partnership between the refinery and city first responders.

“The safety of our employees and the community is our top priority,” said Kollin Schade, General Manager. “We appreciate the swift response of our team and the cooperation of the City of Great Falls in assisting with the temporary road closure.”
