The Great Falls Police Department organized a heartfelt retirement ceremony to honor Senior Police Officer Tanner Lee on Thursday, August 15th.
Officer Lee’s retirement comes after an unfortunate incident on March 7, 2023, when he was wounded in the line of duty while apprehending a fleeing suspect. Despite his bullet-resistant body armor offering some protection, he sustained multiple gunshot wounds, resulting in severe damage to his right arm. Following extensive medical treatments, including surgeries and physical therapy, Officer Lee made the difficult decision to retire, as he is no longer able to perform his duties at the level he aspires to.
Officer Tanner Lee had served with distinction at the GFPD for five years. The incident that led to his retirement occurred during an attempted traffic stop of a vehicle from Billings. Despite the assailant firing shots, Officer Lee’s chest was shielded by his bullet-resistant armor. However, the injuries to his arm were severe, requiring surgery and extensive rehabilitation. Officer Lee was discharged from the hospital on March 12, 2023, after undergoing medical care and treatment.
The retirement ceremony was a poignant event, attended by the community of Great Falls, Officer Lee’s friends and family, as well as fellow first responders from the fire department, police force, and the Sheriff’s department.
