Since the 1980s the Montana Arts Council has administered the Governor’s Arts Awards, which honor individuals and institutions who have contributed a substantial legacy to the arts in Big Sky Country.
These awards, presented in the Governor’s name, represent the highest honor the state bestows on those working in the visual, performance, literary, media, and traditional arts.
The Montana Arts Council is now accepting nominations for the 2024 Governor’s Arts Awards. Awardees demonstrate achievement and artistic excellence, dedication to Montana, ongoing contributions to the cultural community, and worthiness of recognition.
Nominees should be residents of Montana or organizations based in Montana. Individual artists must be living at the time of nomination. Prior Governor’s Arts Award winners are not eligible.
Nominations are open between now and March 5, 2024. For more information, or to nominate a worthy artist, visit the Montana Arts Council’s website at https://art.mt.gov. Honorees will be recognized on December 5 with a ceremony in the state Capitol.
