A Poem By Gennett
Coon dogs and lightening bugs
Foggy mornings and gentle rains
Coal mines and rock quarries
Crossroads and train depots
Daffodils and dogwood trees
Sunday morning church services
Surrounded by family
Being pretty means well-behaved.
Be home by dark thirty
No street lights
But the stars are bright
A glow-in-the-dark blanket in the sky
Dirt roads and wooden bridges
House doors unlocked
Leave a note if you stop by
Keys in the cars
In case the neighbours need anything.
Put the garden out in the spring
More than you need so you can help others
Canning jars fill the shelves
Learn to hunt and fish early
Memories of days gone by
Wading in the creek, swimming in the river
Life was harder and easier at the same time
All of these things made me who I am today
