Paris Gibson Square Museum of Art invites the public, military active duty, veterans, and their families to Military Arts Day at The Square, Saturday, November 4th from 11am to 2pm.
To celebrate the second year of The Square’s Veteran Arts Program, this Saturday event will honor local Veterans, active-duty members, family, and friends of all branches of the military. In conjunction with the current exhibition, IL MAESTRO!: Works by Morton Levin, a Centennial Celebration, programming will include art activities, tours, a film discussion, and lunch provided by Jersey Mike’s. Hands-on art activities will connect with the processes Levin pursued to express and observe through personal and collective experience. This event is organized by Ellie Weber, Director of Education, in collaboration with Nicole Maria Evans, Curator of Exhibitions and Collections to coincide with IL MAESTRO!: Works by Morton Levin, a Centennial Celebration.
IL MAESTRO! is a retrospective of Morton Levin’s work to mark 100 years of his life and is the first of its kind in a museum setting. Levin fought in World War II and survived, experienced the fervor of modernism in Europe and the United States, and received an education in the arts post-WWII through a G.I. Bill—also known as the Service Men’s Readjustment Act of 1944. With access to education, a passion for art, and a means to live, Morton Levin created art, lived art, and loved through art.
Military Arts Day is also a collaboration with The Square’s Veteran Arts Program, which meets every other Wednesday from 5-7pm at the museum and is free for all participants. This program is open to any Veterans in Great Falls and surrounding areas. Instructors specializing in their trained art medium lead classes each month, allowing participants to explore many different art mediums throughout. The Square and Great Falls Vet Center have partnered to provide local Veterans a space for healthy creative expression through multiple art forms, for free.
