The Great Falls Public Library Board of Trustees will hold public meetings on November 13 and 14 to interview finalists and potentially select the next Library Director.
At its July 22 meeting, the Board of Trustees accepted the resignation of Library Director Susie McIntyre and requested that she remain in her position until a new director is appointed, no later than December 27, 2025. The Board also approved a transition plan that included the appointment of a hiring committee to oversee the recruitment process.
Over the past four months, the GFPL Hiring Committee, in partnership with the City of Great Falls Human Resources Department, has completed the administrative and outreach work necessary to fill the position. This included developing the job description, posting the opening, reviewing applications, and conducting initial screening interviews. Library staff were also invited to provide input through an online questionnaire.
Public Interview Schedule
On Thursday, November 13, the Library will host in-person finalist interviews in the Cordingley Room (basement level):
- 10:00 a.m. – Noon – First candidate interview
- 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. – Second candidate interview
That evening, from 5:30–7:00 p.m., the Library Board will host a public meet-and-greet with the finalists in the First Floor area of the Library.
The Board of Trustees will reconvene at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 14, in the Montana Room to deliberate and make a hiring decision. If necessary, second interviews may be conducted at the start of this meeting. Should the Board select a candidate, an executive session will follow to discuss salary and employment terms. The City’s Human Resources Department will then negotiate with the top candidate to finalize the employment agreement and start date.
If the new director begins on or before December 27, the Board will set McIntyre’s final working day. If the new director cannot start until after that date, the Board will appoint an interim director. Should the Trustees decide not to move forward with either finalist, the recruitment process will continue.

Honoring Director Susie McIntyre’s Leadership
During her tenure, Director Susie McIntyre has led significant improvements and expansions that have strengthened the Library’s services to the Great Falls community. Under her leadership, the Library acquired a new Bookmobile, completed major infrastructure upgrades—including boiler replacement and air-handling system improvements—and resolved basement flooding issues.
She also guided programmatic and policy innovations, such as eliminating late fines, joining the Montana Shared Catalog, expanding hours and programming, and forging new community partnerships.
“I appreciate the opportunity to lead this wonderful organization,” said McIntyre. “From purchasing the new Bookmobile to expanding hours and programs, I’m proud of all that we’ve accomplished together.”
McIntyre also played a key role in the successful passage of the Library Levy and the renegotiation of the City/Library Management Agreement.
“I am confident that our excellent staff will take the Library into a stronger future,” she added. “The foundation we’ve built together positions the Library for continued growth and community impact.”
Library Board Trustee and former Chair Whitney Olson praised McIntyre’s leadership:
“We are incredibly proud of Susie’s work as our Library Director. Her vision and commitment have transformed the Library into a stronger, more accessible resource for our community. The improvements she championed—from infrastructure upgrades to expanded services—will benefit Great Falls residents for years to come.”
The Great Falls Public Library continues to serve the community with regular hours and programming throughout this transition.
