At approximately 12:10 PM on November 6th, 911 dispatchers received a report of a suspicious item near the southern part of Gibson Park, close to the intersection of Park Drive N and 1st Avenue N. Investigating officers determined that the item exhibited characteristics of an explosive device. As a precaution, the Great Falls Police Department requested assistance from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) squad at Malmstrom Air Force Base.

Officer Kazior reported at approximately 3:20 PM that the suspicious item had been safely removed, and Gibson Park was fully open again. At that time, the MAFB-EOD team was unavailable, so the City of Missoula Police Department’s EOD squad responded from Helena, where they were conducting training.
