United Way has been organizing the Stuff the Bus event for over 15 years. Last year, they successfully collected more than 18,000 school supplies and essential items. This citywide program aims to provide local children in need with necessary supplies, distributing items through nonprofit organizations and Cascade County schools.
The supplies gathered from community drives and shoppers during the Stuff the Bus event are given to students through public schools, various area nonprofits, and the Back 2 School Blast. The Back 2 School Blast collaborative event involves the Alliance for Youth, the Great Falls Rescue Mission, the Great Falls Public Schools Indian Education Department, United Way, and local businesses, collectively working to provide 2,000 backpacks, haircuts, sports physicals, and more to students in Cascade County.
This year’s Stuff the Bus event is scheduled for Thursday, August 7, from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Target and both Walmart locations. During the event, supplies will be collected, followed by the unstuffing and organizing of the items the next day, which will then be distributed to local nonprofits, the Back 2 School Blast, and schools to benefit the kids.
