On Saturday, August 30th, at 11 am, a silver alert was issued by the Great Falls Police Department to locate 83-year-old Wayne Hunt. Hunt was last seen driving away from his residence in the 700 block of 32nd Ave NE on August 29th, at approximately 7:30 am. He was headed to Walmart, located at 701 Smelter Ave NE.

At 3 pm on Saturday, reports began to come in from community members who spotted Hunt’s van at a pullout off Lower River Rd. However, Hunt was not with the vehicle, and his whereabouts remained unknown at that time.

As the search continued, Corporal Livingston of the Cascade County Sheriff/Coroner’s Office, who also serves as the Cascade County Search and Rescue (CCSAR) Coordinator, launched CCSO and CCSAR rescue boats to search the Missouri River and its banks.

The area was searched by the Great Falls Police Department, GFPD drones, community members, Cascade County Sheriff’s Office, Cascade County Search and Rescue, and Great Falls Fire Rescue (GFFR).

At approximately 10 PM, it was announced with heavy hearts that Wayne Hunt had been found deceased in the river. Condolences are sent to the family and friends of Wayne Hunt.
