Paris Gibson Square Museum of Art (The Square) will once again host a variety of art classes for all ages and abilities beginning in early October. The Square offers art classes taught by artists and art educators on a quarterly basis. Mediums taught include pottery for adults and youth; Beginning Painting; Youth Painting & Drawing; specialty workshops; and free programs for seniors, veterans, and teens. The Square’s adult classes and programs are offered at a variety of skill levels, while youth programming is built to support the K-12 state curriculum.
The Square’s Education Department offers a series of free weekly programs that explore a large variety of mediums. Senior Art is scheduled for every Tuesday, 1 pm – 3 pm, for individuals over the age of 55. For Veteran Arts Program, veterans of any artistic skill level are invited to participate every Wednesday, 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm, to learn from established instructor Nicole Zimmerman. The Curative Art Collective for Teens is a program directed towards high schoolers and homeschoolers from the surrounding areas to participate in personal art expression, community art opportunities, and new experiences. This group meets every Tuesday, 5 pm – 7 pm, to eat delicious food sponsored by local businesses and create alongside others. The adults with disabilities art program is a partnership with EasterSeals-Goodwill to support individuals with opportunities to further their art education and encourages physical/mental growth.
The Square’s instructors are a wonderful asset to the education department, as they work towards the mission of creating a space that inspires and promotes contemporary arts in a historical setting. “They are the soul of the education department in achieving the vision of connecting the community with the culture and the arts. As the classes/programs continue to grow in popularity, The Square aspires to find more like-minded instructors to share their knowledge and expertise with the community,” said Liz Slot, Education Director.
The public is invited to register for paid or free classes each quarter. Partial scholarships may be available through The Square’s Roberta Cooney Memorial Fund.
