In a press conference on August 18th at 10 am, Sheriff Jesse Slaughter began with “We are showing leadership and transparency at the Cascade County Sheriff’s Office.

Our mission statement at the CCSO is very simple. We serve our community, we have a commitment to our profession, and we are accountable to everybody.”

“Lloyde Paul Ogden Jr., Corporal at Cascade County detention center, violated our principles, his ethics, and our mission statement,” stated Sheriff Jesse Slaughter.

On Sunday, August 17, 2025, shortly after 3 am, Cascade County dispatch received a report of a family disturbance at 1015 4th Avenue South. The caller stated that Lloyde Paul Ogden Jr. was drinking, making suicidal statements, and was armed with a handgun. The caller, who was inside the same home as Ogden, initially refused to leave with three juvenile children, fearing that Ogden would harm himself if left alone.

According to Slaughter in a press conference, CCSO deputies arrived at the residence and issued commands to Ogden over a public address system, but initially received no response. Later, phone communication was established. Ogden briefly appeared at the door, allowing deputies to confirm his presence, but then ignored commands and returned inside the home. The initial caller left the residence, provided additional information to deputies, and was evaluated by medical personnel for minor injuries.

Deputies continued their attempts to contact Ogden, eventually making phone contact, during which Ogden claimed that a family member had picked him up. He agreed to meet deputies at the family member’s residence at 1406 5th Avenue North, where he was taken into custody. The deputies then entered the original home at 1015 4th Avenue South to ensure the safety of the three juvenile children.

Lloyde Paul Ogden Jr. has been charged with:

  • MCA 45-5-206 Partner Family Member Assault, 1st offense Misdemeanor – for purposely and knowingly causing bodily injury to a family member.
  • MCA 45-5-213 Assault with a Weapon, a Felony – for purposely and knowingly creating reasonable apprehension of serious bodily injury by pointing a handgun at the victim and making threats.

According to reports, a search warrant was executed at 1015 4th Avenue South to locate the handgun used in the incident. While the firearm was not recovered, a live pistol cartridge was found as evidence. Ogden remains in custody and has been transferred to the Chouteau County Detention Center.

Lloyde Paul Ogden Jr. currently has charges that stem from a pattern of concerning behavior that began on June 19, 2025, when law enforcement responded to another domestic disturbance call involving Ogden threatening suicide while armed. During that incident, family members were evacuated to safety.

According to reports, video evidence and witness accounts documented Ogden behaving aggressively while armed with a handgun. In subsequent phone conversations with a sheriff’s office co-worker, he admitted to assaulting a family member and threatening others. However, Ogden’s victims and witnesses have refused to cooperate or provide statements to the police. The criminal investigation was handled by the Great Falls Police Department.

While the investigation was ongoing, Ogden voluntarily entered an inpatient treatment program in Florida from approximately June 26th- August 1st, 2025. On August 5th, 2025, the Cascade County Sheriff’s Office initiated a comprehensive Internal Affairs investigation examining potential violations of department policies and Montana state statutes. During an August 12th interview, Ogden provided conflicting statements about the June incident, admitting to policy violations while denying criminal conduct. Multiple witnesses failed to appear for scheduled interviews during this investigation as well.

“The escalating pattern of dangerous and criminal behavior exhibited by this employee represents a clear threat to public safety and a serious breach of the ethics every law enforcement officer takes,” stated Sheriff Jesse Slaughter in the press conference. “No one is above the law; law enforcement officers are held accountable just like any citizen. Ogden’s pattern of criminal behavior poses a clear threat to public safety and violates the policy and code of ethics. This arrest demonstrates a zero-tolerance policy. We will continue to hold our personnel to the highest standards and take decisive action when those standards are violated.”

Lloyde Ogden Jr. was hired by the Cascade County Sheriff’s Office in July 2021. Sheriff Jesse Slaughter expressed a deep concern about this event and stated that CCSO is constantly reviewing the hiring and vetting processes to mitigate these incidents now and into the future.

Lloyde Ogden Jr. has been on paid administrative leave since the initial investigation in June. As of August 18, 2025, he will be on unpaid administrative leave while he gets his Collective Bargaining Agreement due process.

More information will be updated in The Great Falls Gazette as it becomes available.
