The River’s Edge Trail in Great Falls has its roots in an idea that began in 1989, evolving into an official trail by 1993. Today’s River’s Edge Trail board, consisting of volunteers, has a mission which focuses on promoting the development, maintenance, and use of the trail. Among the annual events held to encourage community engagement is the Luminaria Walk, which started with just 200 luminarias lighting up a section of the trail near the Caboose. Over the years, the event has grown significantly, moving to various parts of the trail and incorporating local vendors.

This year, the Luminaria Walk will revert to its original route, featuring an impressive 1,500 luminarias lining the trail from the Caboose to Giant Springs Road. Scheduled for Friday, August 22nd, the event will commence at 7 p.m. Participants can enjoy amazing hand-decorated luminaries while strolling the trail, celebrating the world-class beauty of Great Falls.

This free, family-friendly community event, will include food and music along the trail to enjoy. Dogs are allowed but must be leashed. Ebikes are also allowed, but due to the large amount of people on the trail, speeds are asked to be kept at a minimum.
