The Sun River Watershed Group (SRWG) is seeking volunteers to help at the 27th annual Weed Whacker Rodeo on July 12. This family-friendly event includes a morning of pulling weeds followed by a BBQ lunch and prizes in the beautiful Sun Canyon. SRWG hopes participants will stay and continue to enjoy the outdoors into the afternoon, with hiking, fishing, or other activities in the canyon.

“Over more than 25 years, volunteers participating in this event have removed over 10,000 pounds of knapweed,” says SRWG executive director, Tracy Wendt. “The Weed Whacker Rodeo is a great way for volunteers and community members to enjoy the canyon while helping control the spread of noxious weeds. I hope people come, have fun, and feel good for keeping this special place healthy.”

Volunteers should meet at 8:30 at the Beaver Creek campground near the base of Gibson Dam. SRWG provides garbage bags, gloves, ice water, and lunch. Please dress appropriately for weather. Bring sunscreen, a refillable water bottle, sturdy shoes, and anything else needed to be comfortable in hot weather and rugged terrain.

Sun River Watershed Group is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation. SRWG works collaboratively to protect and restore the resources of the Sun River watershed and its communities. More information is available at www.sunriverwatershed.org and on Facebook.
