The Benefis Peace Hospice program invites prospective volunteers to apply for its fall training session.

Volunteers are essential to the Hospice program, taking on a variety of roles with flexible scheduling. They serve meals in the Hospice House, offer assistance in the office, support the grieving, provide companionship to patients, give respite to caregivers, and more.

Hospice training is three days: 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, and Sunday, Sept. 7. The registration deadline for training is Thursday, Aug. 28, and attendance is required at every session. Registration is online at Benefis.org/HospiceVolunteerProgram.

Benefis Peace Hospice serves five counties and seeks volunteers in each. These include Cascade, Chouteau, Teton, Pondera, and Toole counties.

Hospice volunteer Aislinn McBeth said the volunteer work at hospice may be simple, something as easy as washing dishes, but it’s “incredibly meaningful.”

So is the training, she said, “a master class in walking alongside people during one of the most meaningful experiences of their lives – dying or losing a loved one.”
