On July 6th, around 12:15 p.m., a Montana Highway Patrol trooper attempted to stop a speeding vehicle on Highway 3, just north of Billings. The driver refused to comply, leading to a pursuit. Tragically, the suspect’s vehicle collided head-on with a semi-truck near mile marker 12, resulting in the driver’s death at the scene.
The trooper managed to avoid the collision with the semi-truck but rolled his vehicle in the process. He was taken to the hospital and is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries. The semi-truck driver was also hospitalized.
Authorities are not releasing identities at this time as the investigation is ongoing, with the Division of Criminal Investigation now leading the inquiry. Travelers in the area are advised to exercise caution and expect delays. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
