On July 1st, at 12:27 AM, Great Falls Fire Rescue D Platoon responded to a working structure fire at a detached garage with living quarters at 240 31st Ave S in Great Falls, MT. Upon arrival, firefighters observed heavy smoke emanating from the eaves and flames visible in the lower northwest corner of the structure. As the crew attempted to enter the garage, the fire vented through the roof. The crew successfully gained access by cutting a hole in the garage door, where they encountered high heat, smoke, and flames in the attic. The team managed to bring the fire under control approximately 10 minutes after their arrival.

The Montana Air National Guard and the Malmstrom Air Force Base fire departments were called to provide backup coverage for Stations 3 and 4. While providing coverage, Malmstrom’s crew responded to a medical call in the Great Falls Housing District. GFFR also requested an additional engine company to return to service. Unfortunately, the building sustained severe damage, affecting half of the structure. The cause of the fire has been deemed undetermined, but fortunately, there were no reported injuries.
