Big Sky Bus Lines is excited to invite the community to its “Drive the Bus” event on July 12, 2025, from 9 AM to 3 PM at their location at 2920 15th Street NE in Black Eagle, MT. This free event offers a unique opportunity for individuals interested in driving a school bus to experience what it’s like firsthand. Attendees can enjoy complimentary popcorn and cotton candy while engaging with staff on-site to learn more about this fulfilling role in the community.
The event comes at a crucial time, as there is a national shortage of school bus drivers, impacting districts nationwide, including Great Falls. Big Sky Bus Lines aims to highlight how manageable driving a school bus can be. They offer in-house paid training throughout the entire Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) process for anyone who wishes to join their team as a school bus driver.
Those interested can expect competitive pay, starting at $15 per hour during training and increasing to $20 per hour and up after training. Drivers are guaranteed at least four hours of work per day, split between morning and afternoon routes, with potential for additional hours through field trips and extra routes based on performance.
To qualify, candidates must pass a background check, a pre-employment drug and alcohol test, a DOT physical, and a written test. Initial training includes online studies followed by 20 hours of on-site and ride-along training.
Big Sky Bus Lines is dedicated to providing safe, dependable, and cost-effective transportation while ensuring friendly and exceptional service, adhering strictly to all industry laws and regulations.
