On Wednesday, June 4th, at approximately 4:53 PM, Cascade County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a stolen vehicle along US Highway 89 and 57th Street, which led to a police pursuit in partnership with Great Falls Police. According to reports, the suspect’s vehicle crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of 2nd Avenue North and 38th Street.
Upon entering the City limits, the suspect began firing a weapon at GFPD officers and CCSO deputies, at multiple locations, according to a press release, and may have also fired a weapon at citizens in the area.
A joint statement from Cascade County Sheriff Jesse Slaughter and Great Falls Police Department Captain Doug Otto confirmed that while no deputies or police officers were injured, two occupants of the victim vehicle sustained minor injuries. The suspect was partially ejected from their vehicle, suffering injuries that required transport to Benefis Healthcare, where they remain in custody.
The Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has been called in to investigate the incident, involving multiple agencies, including the Cascade County Sheriff’s Office, the Great Falls Police Department, and the Montana Highway Patrol. The intersection where the crash occurred has been cordoned off, and members of the public are advised to avoid the area.
