In Loving Memory of Richard Joseph “Joe” Merenz
Richard Joseph Merenz, lovingly known as Joe, passed away on June 1, 2025. He was 71 yrs old at the time.
A devoted father and friend, Joe’s legacy lives on through his children and grandchildren: Sally (Sonny), Richard, Lucas, and Andrew. He was also a cherished father figure to Jeffrey, Alan, and Sean, offering them guidance and love throughout their lives. Grandchildren are Drea, Taylor, and Michael.
Joe is survived by his beloved mother, Sarah, and his siblings: Yvonne (Russ) Hunnewell, Merle (Hallie), Melody (Darrel) Otness, Glenn (Janet), and Max (Shannon). He will be deeply missed by family and friends. Some of his closest friends were, Shayne, Josh, & Jake, who stood by his side through life’s many highlights and challenges.
He is preceded in death by father, Richard J (Dick) Merenz and sister, Michelle Merenz Price.
Joe had a deep love for the outdoors and found joy in fishing and hunting. Known for his mischievous spirit, he was always ready with a good-natured prank and a hearty laugh, bringing smiles to everyone around him.
Joe’s professional life was very colorful. Most notable was his time served in the Navy and the Coast Guard in the 70’s, along with his time working for the USDA through his retirement in 2018.
He will be remembered for his unwavering love for family and the deep, lasting friendships he nurtured. Joe’s presence left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Celebration of Joe’s life is scheduled for Monday, July 21st. A graveside ceremony will be held at Highland Cemetery in Great Falls at 10:30 am. The Family would like to invite everyone to join them for a celebration of Joe’s life afterward, at Ryan Dam.
