
As of June 20th, a fire known as the Wolf Syrup Fire is burning approximately 22 miles southeast of Libby, Montana. The fire, which started on June 18, 2025, has expanded to 140 acres. Containment efforts are ongoing, and the fire is currently 0% contained. The firefighting team consists of 158 personnel, supported by 10 engines, 2 helicopters, 4 hand crews, 3 water tenders, 2 excavators, and 2 dozers. Recent on-the-ground mapping updates indicate that there has been no significant growth in fire size since the initial operational period. Crews have established a containment line around the fire’s perimeter using a mix of handlines and heavy equipment. Aerial support has also been deployed to cool hot spots along the fire’s edge. Firefighting crews will focus on mop-up operations, working up to 132 feet inside the perimeter to extinguish any remaining hot spots.
Meanwhile, the Hilger Valley Fire, located 20 miles north of Helena, Montana, has reached 100% containment as of June 13, 2025. This fire, which began on June 9, covered 295 acres and was confirmed to be human-caused. The DNRC County Assist Team transitioned command back to the DNRC Helena Unit, which continued to monitor the area to prevent any potential reignition.
