Master Police Officer Philip J. Wilberding graduated from Charles Stewart Mott Community College with an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice in 1998. That same year, he joined the United States Air Force, serving in the Security Forces at our very own Malmstrom Air Force Base until 2002.
In 2004, Phil joined his hometown Flint, Michigan Police Department, officially launching his law enforcement career. On January 3rd, 2006, the Great Falls Police Department had the good fortune to welcome Phil into our ranks—where he has served every day with honor and unwavering dedication.
Lt Tony Munkres said, “Phil is someone young officers should look up to and learn from. He sets a great example.”
Phil has been described as: Steady. Trustworthy. Brave. Always there. Reliable. A positive influence. A consistent producer. A wealth of wisdom. A leader. Committed. A provider of sound advice. A mentor in personal matters. A go-to person. The ultimate policing professional.
A former trainee of Phil’s and now Field Training Officer said, “Despite Officer Wilberding having 19 years of experience under his belt, he has never once allowed his seniority to affect his duties. Officer Wilberding treats every call with the attention it deserves, and never takes shortcuts. It is often asked in this profession ‘Who would you want responding if you family needed the police?’ My answer is Officer Wilberding. His knowledge, calm demeanor, compassion, and natural ability to do the job is exactly what I would want in an emergency.”
