Attorney General Austin Knudsen has announced that Jordyn Muggli, a fifth-grade student from Miles City, is the recipient of the fourth annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Poster Contest, an event that coincides with National Police Week. Jordyn is a student at Lincoln Grade School in Miles City.
The Attorney General announced the poster contest in February, inviting elementary school students to express their appreciation for the law enforcement officers in Montana who confront daily risks to ensure community safety.
In her artist statement, Jordyn articulated her motivation for creating the poster, stating, “We know that the highway patrol and police are always there to protect us no matter what.”
“Montana is a state that ‘Backs the Blue’ and this contest is a great way to instill that mentality in children at a young age,” Attorney General Knudsen said in a press release. “I know that law enforcement officers appreciate the support they receive from the community, especially from Montana’s youngest citizens. Thanks to everyone who participated in the contest, and I can’t wait to visit Miles City and celebrate with this year’s winner.”
Jordyn’s poster was selected from over 175 submissions representing 35 classrooms across the state. Attorney General Knudsen and Montana Highway Patrol Colonel Kurt Sager will honor Jordyn and her class later this month. In recognition of her achievement, Jordyn’s class will also receive a monetary award of $750, generously provided by Stockman Bank.
The winning poster will be exhibited in Montana Department of Justice offices statewide and will be made available to law enforcement agencies throughout the state. Additionally, six regional winners have been selected, each receiving $250 from Stockman Bank and an ice cream social hosted by local troopers.
The six regional winners were:
District One: Harley Hausmann, of Corvallis
District Two: Gabriel Oliver, of Great Falls
District Three: Jaxson Richards, of Helena
District Four: Jennessa Cantrell, of Billings
District Six: Briggs Bollweg, of Whitefish
District Seven: Lila Clawson, of Belgrade
