The Great Falls Electric (15-2) started the season by winning their first twelve games before the Wenatchee (WA) Bighorns (12-5) defeated them once in April and again in May on the road.
In their fifth meeting, Great Falls led three of the four quarters behind the solid offensive efforts of Terry “TJ” Maston Jr., who scored 41 points and KD Moore, the team’s leading scorer, chipped in 30 points to lead the Electric to a 131-113 victory.
In Thursday’s The Basketball League (TBL) contest, Wenatchee bested Great Falls 135-129 with Bighorns standout Tavin Cummings scoring 44 points outdueling Great Falls’ KD Moore, who finished with 41.
The first quarter resonated for the Bighorns like Thursday’s contest did as they maintained a 36-23 lead heading into the second quarter. Great Falls led 9-5 on a layup by Brandon Jones with 8:59 remaining. Wenatchee outscored Great Falls after that 27-18.
In the second quarter, the Bighorns led by as many as ten points on multiple occasions before Great Falls was able to even the score, 45-45 with a KD Moore layup with five minutes to go before halftime. Two minutes later, the Electric would have their first lead (49-48) as Lyle Hexom converted his layup. After Tavin Cummings got the lead back on a three-point field goal, a trio of Great Falls players TJ Maston Jr. (seven points), Lyle Hexom and KD Moore each produced one long-distance trey as Great Falls concluded the quarter on a 13-0 run.
Wenatchee entered the third quarter with five consecutive points before Lyle Hexom stopped the Electric’s drought with a three-pointer to make the score 65-56 in favor of the visiting team. Great Falls built an 18-point lead seven minutes into the quarter (80-62). Wenatchee chipped away at their deficit and trailed by ten points (94-84) before the horn sounded to end the third quarter.
In the final twelve minutes, TJ Maston Jr., KD Moore, Dexter Williams Jr. and Brandon Jones accounted for the 37 points scored by Great Falls. The Bighorns finished the contest by scoring 29 points with Nick Fleming, Chris Cromartie, Kobi Johnson, Tavin Cummings, and Chane Behanan all gathering points for the host squad.
