Starting May 12 through the end of the month, the Great Falls Public Library will forgive $5 from patrons’ fines, up to $25 in total, for every non-perishable food item they bring into the Library, which will be donated to the Great Falls Community Food Bank.

Patrons can also donate non-perishable food items to pay it forward by bringing the items to the desk and letting a staff member know that they’d like to remove charges from the account of a child with a GFPL card, up to $25 in total.

Some of the items most in need, according to the Great Falls Community Food Bank, are can openers, jelly, pancake syrup, cereal, rice, canned chicken, condiments (ketchup, mustard, mayo), and other various snacks.

The food bank does accept many canned foods that are past their best-by date within common sense. See stilltasty.com for more information on best-by dates. For any other questions regarding donations, contact the Food Bank at (406) 452-9029.
