On Sunday, March 9th, a structure fire was observed by neighbors and reported on Meadowlark Lane in the Willow Creek Subdivision, located north of Augusta. Due to high winds, the fire rapidly spread across an estimated 250 acres.

The residents of the property were not home at the time. Although the house was completely destroyed, the prompt response by neighbors and volunteer firefighters significantly minimized damage to nearby homes.

One neighbor reported the loss of the majority of their hay, however, their horses remained unharmed. “We took turns babysitting it all night so we could make sure the wind blowing clumps of burning hay and embers didn’t start something else,” they stated.

This incident highlights the critical importance of effective community response and collaboration. A sincere expression of gratitude is extended to the volunteer firefighters, forest service personnel, and community members who responded swiftly to help contain the fire.
