Fans of the University of Providence women’s basketball program may have two more chances to watch the Argos play at home this season.

Coach Bill Himmelberg’s team will play host to an NAIA Sectional Tournament this weekend at McLaughlin Center on the UP campus.

The Argos (22-7), were the Frontier Conference tournament champions last week and drew a No. 5 seeding for the Sectional Tournament. They will face No. 12 seed College of Idaho (17-12) Friday night at 5.

In the second game of the night at 7, No. 4 seed Georgetown, Kentucky (20-8) will meet No. 13 seed Jamestown, North Dakota (19-10).

The Friday winners will advance to the Sectional championship game Saturday night at 5. The winner of that contest will qualify for the NAIA National tournament, to be played March 20-25 in Sioux City, Iowa. Providence finished second at the national tourney a year ago, losing to Dordt College of Iowa.

Three other Frontier Conference women’s teams were also selected for the 64-team field, and all will start tournament play on the road. Carroll College (19-11) plays Friday in Ashland, Oregon against Wayland Baptist of Texas; Montana Tech (18-11) starts in Madison, South Dakota vs. Dakota State; and Rocky Mountain (20-10) opens in Sioux City, Iowa against St. Francis of Illinois.
