Did you know that Montana is winning big on fuel innovation? Montana Renewables, a subsidiary of Calumet, received a 1.5-billion-dollar loan, funded from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) to bolster production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel and Renewable Diesel.

When it’s all up and running, this expansion in Great Falls will make Montana Renewables one of the global leaders in this sector. They use farm and ranch products to create the fuels, so our Agriculture community and heritage stays strong, too.

In this time of examining federal spending, I’m very grateful for Senator Daines stepping up to help get the remainder of the loan funds released! Investments in energy innovation like these create jobs and boost local businesses. And, like Senator Daines says: “Energy security is national security.”

We have a chance to protect energy innovation benefits for Montana businesses, however the Republican Party leadership in Congress has been clear about their intention to repeal parts of the IRA legislation that made this happen. I hope Senators Daines and Sheehy, and Representatives Zinke and Downing will think twice, because Montanans want these investments in our state’s innovation. We will benefit from keeping this momentum going!
