NorthWestern Energy donated a $2,500 multi-gas detector to the Black Eagle Volunteer Fire Department to keep the first responders safe when responding to calls.

“The Black Eagle Volunteer Fire Department is a great partner, keeping our community safe and responding to emergencies 24/7, 365 days a year,” said NorthWestern Energy Supervisor Gas & Electric Operations Jamey Wheeler. “We want their personnel to have this important safety tool when carrying out their critical work.”

The hand-held multi-gas detector is used to detect combustible gases and measure the concentration of oxygen, carbon monoxide and hydrogen sulfide. It helps determine whether it is safe for fire responders and emergency personnel to enter a structure.

The Black Eagle Volunteer Fire Department serves Black Eagle, as well as the area west to Stuckey Road and north to the Cascade County line. In 2024, the fire department responded to 253 calls.

“We continue to budget to finish our new building that is more centrally located and built to house our larger equipment, so donations such as this are valuable,” said Black Eagle Volunteer Fire Department Lt. Graydon Irish. “NorthWestern Energy personnel work with us to keep both our community and volunteer firefighters safe.”

NorthWestern Energy also delivered a $500 donation for the new building fund.
