Reader Q&A is an infrequent column about questions we get asked frequently.

How do I cancel my subscription, and can I get a refund?

This is a common question we get on our subscription line. Canceling a subscription is easy, give us a call and we can stop recurring payments. This means you will NOT get charged for another term of your subscription. Not every paper is for every person. That is okay. We will ask if there was a reason you wish to cancel. You don’t have to give us a reason, but it does allow us to see if we’re missing the mark, and maybe step things up to make the paper more appealing to you. You will not be judged if you don’t like something! We believe people should be able to enjoy the paper that is right for them.

If you wish a refund, our policy is that we do not offer refunds for the current month. You may cancel effective the end of your month. If you have prepaid, we will recalculate your rate based on your stay with us. So if you cancel with 11 months remaining on a standard 1-year subscription, you will get a refund. You will not, however, be getting back 10 months of charges, as you do not qualify for the discount you received originally. We strongly suggest if you are not sure if you will like the paper, sign up for a shorter term. All of our rates are the same starting this month, so there is no financial benefit to long-term subscriptions.

Why has the paper been in black and white?

As reported in the Gazette, our press is having problems, a framework piece was damaged, leading to abnormal wear in the system that delivers toner to the drum units. This has caused a couple of breakdowns. We’re currently working on getting that part replaced so we can go back to a full-color paper.

We will be giving credits to subscribers who bear with us through this, however, we have not yet determined what that credit will be. We may be up and down with color as we get things working, it hampers us that we can’t take the machine down for more than 1 day to work on, because of our publishing schedule, this is also limiting how much we can do at one time.

I sent a letter to the editor, but it was never printed, why not?

To be honest, there as many reasons as there are letters. Sometimes the letter threatens violence or encourages violence. Sometimes it is so poorly written that it makes no sense. Quite often the letter is unfocused and we decide to pass. And lastly, if it’s not time-sensitive, letters sometimes just doesn’t make it in right away but will run days or weeks later.
