The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) would like to announce and invite the public to comment on a proposal to resurface about 1 mile of US Highway 87 (US 87) Bypass, also known as 57th Street, on the east side of Great Falls The project begins at the intersection with 2nd Avenue North, and extends south, ending near the intersection with 10th Avenue South.
Proposed work includes milling the existing surface, applying a new overlay, and finishing with a seal and cover (chip seal), upgraded pavement markings, and new signage. The raised medians will be replaced, and new roadway lighting will be installed. The purpose of the project is to address pavement deterioration and enhance roadway safety features.
Construction is tentatively planned for 2027 depending on completion of design and availability of funds. No new right-of-way will be needed. Need for utility relocation will be determined as design progresses.
This project is within the boundaries of the Central Montana Transportation Study. For more information, please visit mdt.mt.gov/pubinvolve/centralmt/.
The public is encouraged to contact Great Falls District Preconstruction Engineer James Combs at (406) 454-5900 or Project Design Engineer Chris Ward at (406) 454-5894 with questions or comments about the project.
