To celebrate Montana’s hunting heritage, Governor Greg Gianforte has launched the third annual Youth Hunting Story Contest for Montana youth and apprentice hunters aged 10 to 17. The deadline to enter the contest is Monday, December 2nd, 2024.
Participants are required to submit a story of no more than 500 words along with a photo from their 2024 hunt. To be eligible, hunters must be residents of Montana and possess a valid hunting license or be registered as apprentice hunters within the age range of 10 to 17. Eligible entries can include harvesting any legal game, furbearer animals, or birds in Montana.
The governor will select 10 winners, five from the 10 to 13 age group and five from the 14 to 17 age group. Winners will be announced in late December and will receive an invitation to the Capitol to celebrate with the governor and collect their prizes in January of the following year.
Prize partners for the 2024 contest include Sitka, Stone Glacier, Kenetrek Boots, J2 Taxidermy, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Murdochs, and the Montana Outfitters and Guides Association.
