
Lorna Raye (Fortner) Johns, aged 83, passed away on October 27, 2024, in Great Falls, Montana. Born on September 10, 1941, in Lake Preston,South Dakota. Lorna attended Washington High School in Cherokee, Iowa before becoming a wife of a service member and raising four children. Later embarking on a fulfilling career as a housekeeper for several hotels in Great Falls.
A cherished figure in her community, Lorna was a vibrant conversationalist who enjoyed being surrounded by her family. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, always ready to share stories and moments with her loved ones. Lorna also had a passion for bowling, leading Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, volunteering for the Heart Association, and indulging in her hobbies of reading, coloring, and collecting teddy bears. One of Lorna’s longest commitments was with the TOPS Group, having been a member for over 50 years.
Lorna is survived by her sister, Sharon (Bill) Tiernan; children, Richard (Natalie) Johns of Rochester, MN, Lorraine Hersey of Great Falls, MT, Vern Johns of Wolf Point, MT, and Douglas (Melony) Johns of Silver Lake, WA.
She leaves behind a legacy through her grandchildren, Richard, Joseph, Danny, Brandy, Michaela, Justina, Nicole, Annabeth, Timothy, Dustin, Justin, Tanner, Kaitlynn, numerous great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Myrtle Scheffers and Luther Fortner; siblings, Betty Durbin and Jim Fortner; and son-in-law, Richard G. Hersey.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 15, 2024, at 11:00 am at River Run Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, located at 4601 3rd Avenue South, Great Falls, MT 59405. Lorna's life was a testament to her enduring kindness and her unwavering commitment to her family and community. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
