On Tuesday, October 8th, at approximately 2:30 PM, Great Falls High School (GFHS) was placed into a Shelter-in-place protocol as a precautionary measure following an incident near the GFHS campus. It is important to note that the assault was not linked to GFHS.

Law enforcement officers investigated an assault that transpired in the 1400 Block of 3rd Ave S. The incident originated from a 911 call reporting a potential assault involving weapons at around 2:21 PM. Officers learned the suspects fled, on foot, through Kranz Park (300 block of 16th St S).

At approximately 3 PM, GFPD officers and members of the United States Marshals Service Violent Offender Task Force believed they had contained the suspects within a residence in the 100 block of 16th St S.

Officers issued commands to exit the premises, several individuals complied; however, it was suspected that one suspect remained within the residence.

The Central Montana High-Risk Unit (CMHRU), comprised of GFPD officers and Cascade County Sheriff/Coroner’s Office deputies, was summoned to the location. During the CMHRU’s presence, the suspect exited the residence and was arrested for outstanding warrants.

As of 6:20 PM, the incident had been successfully resolved, with no reported injuries. Law enforcement officers concluded their operations at the scene, and normal traffic flow was reinstated.
